The COVID-19 crisis has significantly accelerated the need to digitally transform the education and the training systems. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are experiencing an emergency to strengthen their capacity to provide high-quality, inclusive digital education and to immediately implement this knowledge into practice for combating the coronavirus pandemic.
The HEIs closures imposed the necessity of maintenance and facilitation of the continuity of education at a distance through remote forms of teaching/learning. There are urgent needs for mitigation and impute of efforts to support Thus, innovative models of digital HE for structural implementation of a digital teaching/learning process are needed to answer the emerging needs for mitigation of the negative COVID 19 impact on education.
Nano-Code project answers these needs through the establishment and functioning of a digital model for acquisition and assessment of competences (knowledge, skills, autonomy – responsibility) gained by project target groups in the subject specific field of nanotechnology to fight COVID 19. The model reflects the HEI, the teaching staff and the students’ perspective and targets both tutors and graduates. It offers flexible innovative training arrangement for use by HE tutors/graduates within digital environment, operating in interactive mode.
The model comprises two parts:
Nano-Code innovative model for digital HE offers an algorithm for structuring of the specific learning content of the digitally enhanced curriculum ‘Nanotechnology to fight COVID 19’. It formulates
Learning Outcomes(LOs) unified in
Units of Learning Outcomes(ULOs) as basic components of a
Qualificationcertifying an acquired
Competence. The model arranges the learning content, as the ‘knowledge’ counterpart of the LOs in
HE-Learning Pathways(HE-LPs) corresponding to particular ULOs designed to match
EQFlevels 6, 7 and 8 and target groups profile. It also foresees implementation of
ECTSprinciples for knowledge assessment and teaching methodology validation through
credit pointsallocation.

Nano-Code innovative model for digital HE is equipped with user guidance for its operation within the HE-LPs to maximize the use of the digital educational curriculum. The guide comprises concise set of instructions for its exploitation including description of the model key features and all necessary steps to be followed in order to participate in a teaching/learning process and benefit from its specific content.
